Our bodies were made for movement. And what better movement is there than walking?
When I was in between chemo treatments and feeling good enough to exercise, but not good enough to jump and lift weights, I would walk. 15 minutes. 20 minutes. Then 30 minutes. Most of the time in my home (it was winter after all), and all I needed was a few feet of room. I still do these walking workouts on days when I'm pressed for time, or just don't feel up to much else. I learned so much while doing the workouts too. Not only does it feel good to move, but it improves cognitive health as well. We are 60% more creative in our thoughts when we get up and move than if we stay in seats. Walking can improve cardiovascular health, strengthen bones and muscles, help manage weight, reduce stress and anxiety, and can even improve sleep quality. Also, depending on the surface you are walking on, you use different muscles in your legs, ankles and your core. That's why it's so great to go for a walk, or run, on the beach; to go barefoot in the grass or sand; and of course to get on the road, sidewalk, boardwalk, treadmill or track.
Let's use our muscles the way God intended! :) Join the Step into Summer Challenge happening Monday, June 16th! It is for 30 days and you'll track your progress along the way!
Choose your goal for the 30 days - steps or time
