Is too much of a good thing still too much?

I've been having this conversation with myself this week. Am I getting in too much exercise?
What?? How can I even ask myself that? Is there such a thing?
Actually, yes. There is such a thing as too much. And we're going to talk about it today.
Bananas are healthy, but you can still gain weight if you eat too many too much.
Exercise is amazing, but you can still hurt yourself by doing too much too often.
Experts recommend 150 minutes of physical activity, mainly cardio, a week. Doesn't sound like much to those of us who perhaps workout each day for an hour or so. But it's actually just enough to keep you in shape and your heart healthy.
I'm not saying downsize your workout routine. What I am saying is that it's important to rest. Give your body the movement it's made for, but also the rest it deserves.
I've spoken about recovery after intense workouts before in this blog, and today I'm reiterating how important it is. Rest is when your muscle recover, repatch themselves. If you never rest, when do you recover? If you over train, how do you prevent injury from over use?
A few other symptoms of over training are as follows: fatigue, insomnia, irritability and agitation, loss of appetite, extended muscle soreness, elevated resting heart rate, hitting a plateau, and much more.
Unless you're in a special training for something, is it worth it?
My advice? Listen to your body.
If you are just trying to stay in shape, healthy, and live a great life, 5 days a week at between 30-45 minutes each day is ample amount of intense workout time (this is not taking into consideration other activity throughout the day. Solely intense working out)! However, if you crave more time and your body is happy to oblige, then by all means, go at 'er.

Thanks for the reminder, Tracy 🙌. Recovery is just as essential as exercise—without it, progress slows and injuries creep in. At home, I try to keep balance in mind too. Making smart choices for our space, like solid wood bunk beds Canada, helps create a healthier environment for both rest and activity.
