Feeling thankful at FitStop

October is such an amazing month. It's got to be the most colorful, for sure! It's also the month when you can wear a sweater, but still get away with shorts and sandals.
But more so, it's a thankful month. The harvests are coming in. The routines are in place. The busyness of Summer has slowed down.
There are a few points I'd like to address today in light of Thanksgiving being so near. And then I'll finish with some ideas on how to keep from getting too bloated from Thanksgiving dinner.
First things first, let's be thankful we can move!
Our bodies are so amazing and most days we take it for granted that we can move and do all that we do. Until something is wrong (sickness, break, sprain, etc), we don't really put much thought into it. BE THANKFUL FOR YOUR BODY. Be thankful for movement.
We are so fortunate to have all the equipment and machines that we do here at FitStop. I'm thankful that they are all safe and we take care of the machines. That way there's no big worries for you, the users.
The FitStop has an amazing team of group fitness instructors! I know I'm thankful for them and I hope you are too. I'm thankful to actually be a part of that team and to teach so many of our members. We truly have become family.
Motivation. Discipline. Habits. These are all things we continue to work on throughout our fitness journeys, but are we thankful for them? Motivation gets us going-- and it comes from somewhere... either deep inside of us or from something or someone around us. Be thankful for that. Discipline is something we continuously need to feed. Some people have a hard time with it and have to learn different tricks to attain it. Let's all be thankful for any amount of discipline we have in our hearts. Habits. The result of discipline. Be thankful for all your good habits today. Take a moment to think about them. I bet there's more in your life than you realize. :)
Thankfulness and Gratitude can change our mindsets and attitudes big time! Today is a great day to start practicing these virtues if you're not already. It takes micro seconds of your time to be thankful. It can start with something as small as being thankful/grateful for the yummy yogurt you had today. Or that you had a really great workout. Or even the pure fact that you woke. That you can breathe. That you can think.
There is so much to be thankful for. It honestly never ends.
So, next weekend when we see our country celebrating Thanksgiving, whichever way you do it, remember the little things. It changes your perspective! I promise you.
Speaking of Thanksgiving... for those of you who celebrate with family and friends the traditional way (meaning loads of yummy foods!), here are some healthier ways to make it through the meal (or multiple meals) without getting too bloated:
Plate your food separately. Don't throw everything on top of each other. This way you can make sure you're getting enough of the meat (protein), veggies (fiber) and still leaving a little room for the carbs (potatoes, gravy, stuffing).
Make homemade gravy instead of bought packages.
Have a wide variety of vegetables available.
Make sweet potato mash instead of russets.
Pass on the rolls and butter.
Have the dessert, but use a smaller plate. And check out the recipes below:
Food is a wonderful thing to be thankful for, but we also need to make good choices!!
