Today's topic: protein powder. With so many choices out there, which is best for you???
I've been wanting to do this for a while, actually, so I thought what better way to do some research than to make a blog about it. Let's talk protein powder, shall we?
I've looked up some of the more popular brands out there: Beyond Isolate, Diesel, Shakeology, Vega, Good Protein, Biosteel, and Isagenix. I'm going to do a little breakdown of ingredients, prices and more.
Beyond Isolate: 27g of protein from whey isolate per serving and only 120 calories & 1g carbs. "Beyond Isolate was formulated to deliver the purest and fastest absorbing source of protein available - this protein for people who are serious about optimizing recovery and muscle growth! It is lactose-free and gut-friendly :) It contains all 9 essential amino acids.
Beyond Isolate is also gluten-free, sugar-free, and banned substance-free."
It comes in several yummy flavors and sells for $67.99 for 1.9 lbs (862 g). Made in Canada.
Diesel: "Everything Good, nothing Bad" Diesel is 100 % authentic New Zealand Whey Isolate and 100% New Zealand grass-fed and pasture raised dairy. It's peanut and nut free, gluten free, no artificial colors, sweetened with stevia, and Keto approved. 0g sugar, 0g carbs and 0g of fat. Diesel sells for between $42.99 and $169.99 (360 g up to 5lbs ) ex: $89.99 for 2 lbs. Made in Canada
Shakeology: I personally drank this for 7 straight years. I have just recently stopped due to price, but am looking at it again... lol. I love it. Here are some stats: Formulated without aspartame, sucralose, and erythritol and without soy protein. Source of Omega-3 fatty acids and contains at least 2B CFU Probiotics. "Each serving of Shakeology contains proteins, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, antioxidants, fibre, probiotics, digestive enzymes, and adaptogens. We source ingredients from across the globe to ensure the best quality. So before anything makes it into our shakes, hundreds of hours of work go into vetting and testing both the ingredients and the suppliers" A 30 serving bag on a monthly subscription is $148.15. Made in USA (sold in Canada)
Vega: One and Done Protein. 20g of plant protein, with antioxidant vitamin C to support the immune systems, minerals, probiotics, fibre, omega-3 polyunsaturates, and good-for-you greens. Gluten-free, vegan and no added sugar. Vega has a lot of different products to offer for individual goals and needs. One of the cheaper brands out there: $34.99 for a 461g (about 12 servings) container. Made in Canada.
Good Protein: Superfoods, Nutrients and Plant-Based Ingredients. "Our shakes are made with nature’s most nutritious superfoods." $37.99 for 400 g bag (about 10 servings), made in Canada.
Biosteel: 24g to 28g of protein per serving. Grass-fed whey or plant-based. Non-GMO, no artificial colors or flavors. NSF certified for sports. Keto friendly and stevia sweetened. $49.99 for 750g container. Made in Canada
Isagenix: "24 grams of high-quality protein, including undenatured whey from grass-fed cows. Superior amino acid profile and branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). Features an array of nourishing vitamin forms called vitamers. Helps support a normal metabolism and build lean muscle. Clinically studied and third-party quality tested. No artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners." Prices vary, but as an idea: $55.00 for an 826g canister. Made in New Zealand.
There are so many other brands out there, but these are the ones I decided to focus on today. I learned so much looking these up. Another thing I have learned about, through talking with others, is that New Zealand grass-fed is the way to go! Cleanest whey isolate there is. Now, there are other aspects you should look at too, such as: do you want this as a meal replacement? Do you want to get more vitamins and minerals? Do you simply want to up your protein? Or do you want something to aid you in your muscle recovery after a workout?
Is price a factor?
Maybe Protein Powder isn't for you. And that is ok too. :)
