Your spine is your lifeline. I'm sure you've heard that before.

That's because it's true.

World Spine Day is Oct. 16th and we are talking about it today!

Our spine gives us so much. Our shape, our posture, protection for our spinal cord (our nerves connected to our brain and rest of the body), and our movement.

Remember this from high school?
Remember this from high school?

Wow, our spine holds a lot of responsibility. So, it is OUR responsibility to take care of it as much as it cares for us. But how?

Here are some practical tips on how you can invest in your spine

  1. Watch your weight (exercise and eat properly)

  2. Stretch

  3. Use your legs to pick things up

  4. Go for walks

  5. Stand up and sit up straight

  6. Strengthen your core muscles

  7. Reduce pressure on your back while sleeping by placing a pillow beneath your knees or between your legs

  8. Quit smoking

Here are some great spinal exercises: Bird Dog, Cat Cow, side planks, knee hugs, core rotations, and curl ups.

Practice these on a daily basis, along with walking and you'll keep your spine nice and healthy.

Your spine is your lifeline!
