Hey! How are things going? Busy being busy?
That's typically the kind of answer we give people, isn't it? I'm so busy. Life is so busy. Run, run, run. Go, go, go.
But why?
Well, everyone has their own reasons for being busy. Family life, work, sports, school, leisure, travel, etc. Oh, yeah, and don't forget about sleeping, eating and exercising!
So, is all that busy bad? No it isn't. Is any busy good? As long as it's lined up with a purpose, then yes, it's good. You can be busy helping your aging parent. You can be busy training your toddler. You can be busy raising funds for a charity.
Busy is a choice.
Busy is a state of mind.
And it has an effect on your health.
Are you ready to see this through a different perspective?
Take a moment and write down all the things that are necessary to do in your day to day life.
Eating, movement, drinking water, prayer/meditation, driving/walking to work, laundry, running errands, wellness appointments. If you have children, taking care of them. For example.
Now, take another moment and write out the extras that you have allowed into your life. Committees, groups, sports, studies, etc.
Which ones are necessary for you and which aren't? This is the hard part. However, it's good to reflect on which activities align with our state in life. It's good for our mind. And what's good for our mind is good for overall health.
Busy is a choice. We can say yes. And we can say no.
Last winter, the choice was made for me when I was receiving chemo. I had to say no to a lot. And I learned what I could say yes to. I learned that sitting and reflecting on things for a moment isn't a waste of time, but it adds time to my life.
Here is a quote from Marisa Mohi's Book/Blog: Busy is a Choice:
"So, if you’re always busy and you have yet to analyze why, ask yourself what choices you’re making. Are you busy, or just manic? Can you cut something out for the sake of your sanity? The answer is almost always yes, and you almost always should. If you feel behind, constantly overworked, or like you’re spinning your wheels, remember that busy is a choice. No one else can get you out of that but you."

In 2 weeks, it's Christmas! What a beautiful time. What a busy time too, eh? Will you make the time to sit and reflect this Christmas? It's so good for your health.
We all have our traditions to do every year around this time, and again, if they align with your life right now, yes, make them work. I have seen, over the years with my kids getting older and moving out, how some traditions have to change and others are made. And we need to be willing to be flexible with them. Being flexible and being busy don't always go together.
