**Merriam Webster Dictionary gives this definition of Consistency: firmness of constitution or character : persistency
**Cambridge dictionary says this: consistency noun (BEING THE SAME)
the quality of always behaving or performing in a similar way, or of always happening in a similar way:
**And Oxford dictionary: the quality of always behaving in the same way or of having the same opinions, standard, etc.; the quality of being consistent.
What is your definition of CONSISTENCY?
What does being consistent mean to you?
A few weeks ago, I blogged about motivation. As the saying goes: Motivation is what gets you going.... Now we've graduated to consistency or persistency. We have to make the decision to be, we have to persist in being, motivated every day. That's consistency.
Ok, let's look at this in terms of Fitness and Wellness! Being consistent means showing up! Doing the work day in and day out. Even on days when you don't feel like it, you do something. It means finding what works for you, what helps you become the best version of yourself, and sticking with it! No program is one size fits all, but every program will work if you show up and do the work. That's consistency.
As you know, I'm a big advocate for nutrition as well as fitness, so being consistent in your workouts is one thing. Being consistent in your nutrition is a huge thing!!
I'm sure you have heard this quote at least once: “It takes 4 weeks for you to notice your body changing, 8 weeks for your friends to notice, and 12 weeks for the rest of the world to notice. Give it 12 weeks. Don’t QUIT!”
That, my friends, is consistency.
It's a long time, isn't it? 12 weeks. I know we all want instant results. Those of us who have been at this fitness thing for years, know that "instant" is never the case when it comes to getting the results we aim for. And when you do get the results, is that it? You're finished? Heck no! The consistency is engrained in you and you keep at it to maintain.
Then you become an example to others.
Ok, let's just say it. What if we fall off the "consistency' train? Every moment is a chance to start again. Every minute we are given is a chance to find that motivation to get going and start showing up and building that consistency again. So, if you fall off by accident or on purpose, or are pulled off by some unprecedented event in your life, it's ok. Because someone is always reaching out a hand to help you back up. You Can Do It!
