Boost your immune system... naturally

Tis the season for colds and flus. It just seems that everywhere you turn someone is coughing, sneezing or feverish. Instead of reaching for pills in reaction to a cold or fever, let's be proactive and dive into natural ways to boost your immune system.

The best one by far is the recharging with the sun! Get that vitamin D naturally. Especially in these shorter days, when it's nice, get outside!


Laugh. Laughter is the best medicine and keeps you feeling great due to the decrease in stress hormones.


Get or keep moving. Movement allows blood flow and "Researchers have found that an exercise session can temporarily boost immune system function, moderate exercise can lower illness risk, and regular exercise can improve immune regulation." -VeryWell Health


Sleep. Ah yes, we have all heard someone say: rest up and feel better. But, it's the truth. Get a good night's sleep. You'll be glad you did. And so will your immune system.


Consider Herbs and Supplements. Many times we just don't have all the natural ingredients at our fingertips. Herbs such as Echinacea, Elderberry, Turmeric, Astragalus to name a few all offer great boosts to our bodies. Foods! How many of us tend to reach for oranges when we start to feel a cold coming?


haha. That's due to the vitamin C. We all know that. But did you know that most citrus fruit are high in vitamin C as well, not just oranges? For example: grapefruit, tangerines, lemons and limes.

Here is a list of yummy foods with immune boosting vitamins. Get them naturally!!

  • Broccoli: vit A, C, E (as well as fiber and antioxidants)

  • Red Bell Peppers: vit C and beta-carotene

  • Garlic: a heavy concentration of sulfur containing compounds, such as allicin.

  • Ginger: helps with inflammation and a sore throat

  • Spinach: vit C

  • Yogurts: live and active cultures to stimulate immune system, and vit D

  • Almonds: vit E

  • Green Tea: flavonoids (antioxidants)

  • Kiwi: vit C and K
